........Mardi Gras has been celebrated for over two hundred years in Louisiana. Mardi Gras day or Fat Tuesday is the big party before the Catholic holiday called Lent "Ash wednesday". To prepare for this Pias occasion elaborate parades and fantasy balls are hosted by Social Aid and Pleasure Clubs commonly known as "Krewes". Parades are located all over the city. Men and women ride on parade floats wearing mask and colorful costumes. Many Krewes invest large sums of money on their parades one day of the carnival season.
